So I was doing a section on my message board home, CBS Sports NBA General board, and was planned to keep track of all my NBA bets for the season over there. So I got a message from Seth last night and it was all like…

Seth: Why didn’t you post this at TSHQ? Are you working for 7 other blogs? I am sensitive and paranoid! Also drunk!

K.M.: No Seth, I was just being lazy.

Anyway, he rambled on for another 4 hours about these awesome rocks he found and some story about why he hates the Dutch, but all I really got out of it is that Seth wants me to make my NBA Best Bets a feature here. That’s cool by me.

Because I have no interest in keeping two separate records, just pretend I posted my picks here from yesterday. Which, by the way, went very well. 3-1 overall, winner on my only 2 unit play and 2-1 on 1 unit plays. GO K.M. GO K.M. GO!

Utah -7.5 vs. the Suns (1 unit)

Hate laying the wood to this extent on a national TV game as a matter of principal, my experiences tell me the dog does better in these games (more true in the NCAA with ESPN games, but still true in the NBA, best I can tell. But Utah has a favorable matchup. Utah got a lot of rest last night, Sloan knew the game last night was out of reach, and he went 12 deep, all 12 players getting at least 11 minutes (if I recall correctly…anyway, I’m close if I’m wrong). Jazz will be fresher then they would be, and don’t pretend fatigue doesn’t occur early in the season, it does because these guys are playing big minutes in games that count for the first couple times, it’s more tiring now then it is in December, but less then in March. Also, did you know the Suns suck on TNT? It’s true. They lost like 18 in a row between 2008-2010. I forget that number. Anyway, Suns are trying to find their identity, they struggle on the glass, struggle distributing right now, and won’t be likely to be as good from the arc as they were vs. Portland. Utah covered about 2/3rds of the time at home last year, it’s always a safe bet. Almost seems too good to me, but then I remember Utah is laying 7.5 after getting falcon punched by the Nuggets, so I figure this is just a good bet, and the public seems split, so I think I’m heading to valuetown and not a trap from the Empire.

For the record, the Wizards +1350 straight up seems like a thin value play, I don’t think anyone should be a 27-2 underdog to win their first game of the season, and I did see the Wizards beat the Mavs game 1 last year, but I’m gonna pass on it. If you like it, go for it, I won’t stop you. And I like the Wolfpack SU over the Seminoles today, which I am betting, because FSU hates Thursday Night games with a passion, they get all crabby cause they always have to go on the road because FSU is too stupid to figure out how to host a Thursday Night game because they don’t know how to rid the university of all the student cars. HOW DO THESE CARS LEAVE THE UNIVERSITY? DO PEOPLE DRIVE THEM? WE ARE CONFUSED! But I’m not going to pollute this record with my NCAA picks, NBA only over here.
