Smith faking or not, you are NOT allowed to drill the goalie like that.  Smith had the puck and Shaw had plenty of time to not only see that, but to position himself to avoid making that much contact.  This play happens a lot, but rarely does a skater make as much of a knuckleheaded play as Shaw did.

Incidental “head to head” contact.  It even appears that Shaw tried to avoid the body contact.  Should not have been a penalty.  Later in the game Smith reaches out and cross checks Toews and Toews gets the penalty for goalie interference.  Come on, poor officiating!

I think if goalies want to be able to go behind the net they should be treated like any other player and hits and hits are part of the game  I think the nhl should change the rule

Until they change the rule, it’s a penalty.

THE GOALIE DID A GREAT FLOP JOB. SHOULD HAVE BEEN PENALIZED. I DONT LIKE HEAD SHOTS, BUT HE STUCK HIS HEAD IN THERE TO DELIBERATLY RECIEVE THE SHOT.  SHAW WAS TRYING TO AVOID HIT. A DELIBERATE HEAD SHOT IS LIKE THAT GOON IN NASHVILLE DELIVERED.

He left the net to play the puck. He also lowered his head to play the puck he is fair game behind the net also from midget hockey and forward you are told to keep your head up to be able to see what’s going on around you.
